Mike started fishing as a very young boy with his dad, Bob, in Texas. His earliest memories include wanting to fish every waking moment. Although he enjoyed playing football and baseball, his passions were basketball and fishing. He played basketball in high school and at Texas A&M University where he graduated with an Engineering degree in 1982. After college he married his high school sweetheart and they moved to south Florida to begin his professional career in electrical engineering sales. Mike is still with the company that moved him to Florida 29 years ago, Siemens, and continues to be one of their top sales performers, receiving the Circle of Sales Excellence Award 28 of his 29 years.

It didn’t take Mike long living in Boca Raton to discover Lake Okeechobee and fall in love with its bass fishing opportunities. By 1988 Mike was fishing every local and regional bass fishing tournament he could get to and making quite a name for himself. In his first 11 years of competition (1988-1998) Mike won 6 fully rigged Ranger bass boats in tournaments – while racking up over 86 1st place finishes, and over $330,000 in winnings. As one of the top fishermen in Florida, Mike decided to try his luck on the FLW circuit in 1996 and won the inaugural event. In his years on the FLW trail, he has qualified for 5 Classics, enjoyed 18 top-10 finishes, and earned $494,486 from FLW winnings, bringing his total tournament fishing earnings to over $824,486.

As host of All About Fishing, which aired on The Outdoor Channel from 2003-2006, Mike had the opportunity to travel worldwide fishing with some of the legends of bass fishing. Costa Rica, Mexico, Virginia, Florida and Brazil were just some of the locations he enjoyed traveling to where he caught Marlin, Peacock Bass, Largemouth and Smallmouth Bass, Stripers and Sailfish (just to name a few).

Traveling over 40,000 miles across this country each year fishing the FLW Tour, Mike has come to realize the importance of having terrific sponsors. Fishing from his 2011 Ranger boat powered by his Evinrude E-Tec provides him that same level of comfort and safety while on the water.
